... Victoria Stillwell is one of the leading figures in Purely Positive (pp) dog training. She believes all dogs should be trained stress free, no corrections necessary and anyone that does not agree with her is barbaric. She will openly have dogs PTS if she can’t help them, she was bit by a working dog because she was more interested in getting a decent shot for filming and showed a compete lack of knowledge in that field.
Above is just some of the stuff she’s about, yet people blindly follow her and the way she is pushing, she’s brainwashing a nation into thinking all dogs must be trained using PP methods or things will be made worse and the dog will suffer.
So let’s see if that’s true.....
Below is two videos featuring Reactive Great Danes, one trained using PP methods (apparently, the rules change to suit the agenda) and one trained using balanced training methods. Let’s see what ‘the dog of dog training’ can do.
Additional Information:
I can’t find one single shred of evidence that VS has actually successfully trained a dog from start to finish. The only videos of her work is from a tv programme and the dogs are far from balanced at the end of the episode.
Also I mention head collars in this video, for the record I don’t like them, but I’m not against them, I think there are a lot better tools out there that are more comfortable and give better control but if you use them correctly and your dog is ok with it, then that’s all that matters.
With head collars, you need a lot of conditioning just to get the dog mildly comfortable with it. Used correctly however they are an effective tool, just not tool I’ve ever needed.
