A lot of people are against prong collars, but many of those people will often use head collars (dogmatics, haltis, Gentle leaders etc) instead.
The following video is a dog who is reactive, one of the contributing factors was the head collar, we switched it to a prong collar and done some work with him and the difference was like night and day.
I guarantee if you was to get 10 dogs that have never worn a head collar and put it on them and start walking, almost all of them (if not all of them) would protest in some way to it. Now get the same 10 dogs and do the same with a prong collar, nearly all of them (if not all of them) would not protest and would be nice and chilled.
Both collars work because they apply pressure, the only difference is, head collars target the about a very sensitive area of the dogs body and is a constant irritant where as the prong collar only applies pressure when the dog pulls or you pull and as soon as the dog stops, it’s instantly turned off and correctly fitted it’s not on a part of the neck that’s sensitive to the dog.
One people view as barbaric the other people view as gentle, only difference is the marketing behind the two and who promotes the head collars.
I would never opt to use a head collar, I would never put one on my dogs, never use one on a clients dog (unless they were adamant that’s what they wanted) I would however use a prog collar on my dogs and other dogs.
