THE POWER OF THE E COLLAR: e collar conditioning a very anxious GSD.

The following is a video filmed today from a remote collar session. Becky is a very anxious GSD that struggles to focus and is constantly wired. We have been doing a lot of work with her around other dogs keeping her calm and making sure the owner has better control of her but her anxiety levels are still very high.

We decided remote collar training her would help her. Becky needs to be off lead and needs to be able to run and play with other dogs. Because of her lack of focus, how over stimulated she gets (this all adds to her anxiety) it's not safe to let her off her lead. She would easily upset other dogs and also just disappear.
The e collar is going to help her focus, lower her anxiety as a result and also allow her to be safely off lead.

Because of how little focus Becky has, even using a e collar is not a easy task. We had to really break it down for her and take a lot of time just using it to tune her in and calm her down.

You will see how in the beginning, Becky is all over the place, we simply just change direction whenever she goes in front of us and tap the button until she turns and follows us. We repeat this over and over until you see her slow down and relax, once we have this we can start to mark the behaviour we are looking for, for Becky it's just paying attention, this breaks it down even simpler for her and then finally we pair it with her recall.

Becky is a highly anxious dog and you will see just how in less then 15minutes, she starts to become more connected to us and more in tune and responsive.

E collars are fantastic tools for anxious dogs, hyper dogs, nervous dogs, reactive dogs etc etc, we don't use them to force the dog to stop behaviours, we don't use them to cause the dog pain, because of the consistent and clear precise communication the e collar offers, it's very easy for a dog to understand and it's that clear communication the e collar offers that helps the dog relax.

As always the e collar being used is the Mini Educator from E-Collar Technologies. We don't use any other brand of e collar and encourage anyone thinking of e collar training to use the same brand and also to make sure you consult a professional before beginning training.
